Absence

There is an absence in the house. Right after I had created the blog, Calvin and I went into the TV room to sort laundry, and watch a recorded episode of Top Chef. We had just started the episode when there was a harsh knock at the door and then if that wasn't enough they rang the bell multiple times right after they knocked. Jac had just gone down for a nap so I was worried that all the commotion at the front door would wake him so I hurriedly went to the front door and peaked through the blinds. I saw a man and in quick decision, opened the door. Normally I would of checked him out more before such a brash move as opening the door to a stranger, but my overwhelming fear that this person might continue with his knocking and ringing and therefore wake the baby I wasn't thinking clearly and opened the door.
The man annoced himself as a city parcel carrier, hired to collect the DVR for Comcast. So I let him in and showed him the TV room, I had to turn off Top Chef and explain to Calvin what was happening. Contd.

The List

So on this journey into TV-less land, what am I looking to accomplish:

1. More quality time with my husband.
2. More quality time with my family.
3. To stop my addiction with TV.
4. Become more invested in my family and the lives of people around me, instead of being invested in whats happening in the lives of people on TV.
5. Spend more time in the Bible and with God.
6. To lose weight, I figure...why not just throw that one in there.
7. Finish all my craft projects, I have a 4 year old afghan, a 5 year old christmas tree skirt, and multiple picture albums waiting in the wings to be completed.
8. Join a book club.
9. Improve my IQ.

I will probably add more later, but that's it so far.

Well it happened !! I never thought I would be strong enough to do it, but with gently prompting and arm wrestling from my husband, we are going to try it. "It" meaning, going without cable. Which in my opinion is being without a TV, I'll explain why in my background, soon to follow. The goal of this journey is to not miss out on life, to not let it pass us by as we veg-out in front of the TV. This life, my husband, and my family are special gifts from God and I don't want the TV to suck away any more time with them.
